In the recent years Project Management crossed the IT barrier and became a role that is feasible to be found in all departments in an enterprise. Even though, Project Management is still a skill which is best developed with practical experience, Project Manager certifications are extremely popular and required for most of the job opportunities in this field.

The certifications are also a safe route approved by the industry and well know among the companies. So, if you are looking for either a career advancement or a global position, these certifications can be a differentiating factor and a great starting point.

Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)

CAPM is considered the first level of Project Management certification. If you have less than 2 years’ experience in the industry and want to expand your options, this is an opportunity. PRINCE2 is one of the most preferred methodologies in the UK and it have been gaining more and more relevance in Europe and around the world.  Together with foundation, practitioner and professional courses, PRINCE2 certifications legitimise your hold over the methodology, Projects in Controlled Environment.

One advantage is that often PRINCE2 allows practitioners to combine other methodologies too. For example, the combination between PRINCE2 and Agile is a common delivery methodology among most of the companies. You probably have heard about PMP, this certification is conferred on professionals by the PMI organisation. The PMP exam is probably one of the most prestigious certifications in the market and maybe one of the first ones to gain relevance.

Usually employers looking to hire high-profile managers will look for PMP certification as an item on their candidate's profile checklist. The PMP can also provide a significant advantage when it comes to salary and earning potential. Among survey respondents to PMI’s Earning Power Salary Survey, those with a PMP certification garner a higher salary (23% higher on average) than those without the exam.

Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)

This certification is ideal for organisations that are heavily invested in the Agile methodology or are looking to move into the space.

It is essential in order to achieve your PMI-ACP exam to hold about 2000 hours of general project experience, 21 hours of actual agile practical training and 1500 hours of agile project management.
